I did a short course at St Martins last week (http://www.arts.ac.uk/csm/courses/short-courses/) in Cartooning Fundamentals. It was really fun, and useful for me mainly because I had completely forgotten how to sketch…

NEVER USE A SINGLE LINE!!!!! YOUR FIRST LINE IS NEVER YOUR BEST!!!!!!!

It was good to have that hammered into me given that usually I go with my first line and wing it, but actually sketching things first and getting the rough size and shape, and breaking people down into manageable shapes really helps. These are some photos of sketches and cartoons I did while I was there (I really wish I had prepared ideas for my cartoons before hand because I’m not very good at thinking of things on the spot). The school itself is awesome, the new campus just behind Kings Cross is very cool, and – bonus- its a two min walk from the museum of illustration which has loads of drawings by Quentin Blake!
