Cartoon maps

For nearly every holiday I’ve been on since 2009 I’ve tried to do a cartoon ‘map’ that records all the funny silly sayings and most important things that happened on the trip.

In 2019 as a family we stopped flying because of its insanely high carbon footprint, and also because of how bad it is in terms of immediate noise and air pollution. It has meant our holiday destinations have become less exotic, but it really doesn’t matter when you are with friends or family! • Loire Valley

    Loire Valley

During the May heatwave (we’re about to start the June heatwave) the girls had their half term holiday and we drove to the Loire Valley in France to see the chateaus. We managed to see six chateaus, one each morning while it was cooler (26-30 degrees rather than 32-34 degrees like it was in the… Read more

    Easter school get together

Catherine and Simon out did themselves hosting an amazing get together of the Casterton girls (and their respective families and dogs- all of which looked the same!). It lasted 3 nights, multiple meals and at least two Easter Egg hunts. Storm Dave crashed the party on the Saturday night, but even the dodgy weather couldn’t… Read more

    Easter

We left it up to the last minute to decide whether we were actually going to go away for Easter as our youngest was having very bad growing pains in her heels and couldn’t walk very well, but I’m glad we went in the end. The downside to the trip was that she had only… Read more

  • February half term

    February half term

I’ve been a bit slow getting this one finished because unfortunately our youngest daughter has had very bad growing pains in her heels (who knew this was a thing?!) that started soon after we got back from this February half term trip and have only just started getting better. The trip, despite the unrelentingly grey… Read more

    Etchingham New Years gathering

For New Years 2026 (well the 2nd-5th January as booking something over New Years eve was twice as expensive for the same accommodation!) we stayed in a big house in Etchingham East Sussex to celebrate with some friends and their kids. It was a very frosty few days and the farmers track to the house… Read more

  • Black Forest

    Black Forest

For the October half term holiday we drove to the Black Forest and stayed in a hotel on the side of the Feldberg. Luckily we’d taken advantage of the clock change and managed to leave the house at 6:30am and arrived just as the first snowflakes were falling – a few hours later and the… Read more
